Why Garden?
There’s always something lighter, something more exciting that brews within us when we experience new beginnings. This is no exception when it comes to gardening. As we plant our seeds with hope that there will be germination, hopes that something will sprout, ultimately, that’s all we have- hope. We place that seed into the ground, perhaps following instructions on the seed packet or perhaps using blind faith, and we, then, give it to nature to take the lead.
We can only set the circumstances for nature to do its work. We offer the seed, we plant in nutrient rich soil. We water the seed and place it in an area where it receives the rays of the sun. All the while, we hold onto that hope that that seed will begin to make an appearance above the surface.
After those weeks of checking, testing both our dedication and our patience, something shifts when we get that first peek. It may be a small sprout, it may be tiny green leaves, but when that something starts to show itself above the dirt in which you planted it, for us garden lovers, the thrill cannot be denied.
This metaphor carries on to our everyday lives. There’s hope, there’s faith. We find the necessary circumstances and do what we think is best. We hold hope that the newness, the goodness will peek above the surface and offer that same sense of joy when it comes to fruition. As we allow ourselves to witness the slow but steady growth and then harvest the fruits of the labors of both our love and the Earth around us, we get to experience something that is profound and magical. Gardening is just a chance for us to physically get to see this in real time.
